Steve Nicholls is Director of MonashHeart, Professor of Cardiology at Monash University and Clinical Director of the Victorian Heart Hospital. After completing his cardiology training at John Hunter Hospital, he undertook his doctoral studies at the University of Adelaide focussing on the anti-inflammatory properties of HDL. He subsequently had faculty appointments at the Cleveland Clinic and South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute. His translational research program spans from the bench to bedside with a focus on the role of metabolic risk factors in atherosclerosis, use of novel plaque imaging modalities and clinical trials of both novel cardio protective therapies and implementation studies to determine the most effective approach to use of established agents in the clinic. He has published more than 800 original manuscripts, book chapters and conference proceedings. He is Honorary Secretary of the CSANZ, Past President of the Australian Atherosclerosis Society and serves as a board member of the International Atherosclerosis Society and Australian Cardiovascular Alliance.
